Calculation online calculator. How to do long multiplication? We can describe the long multiplication algorithm in several steps: Sets two digits to one and aligns them to the right so that the first significant digit is the first digit from the right. 💡 It's a good practice to set the longer number as the multiplier and the shorter number as the multiplicand. It doesn't change the product, but reduces the number of steps. Start multiplying the multiplier by the first digit of the multiplicand (from the right), digit by digit. Anytime you finish a digit greater than 9, write the next digit and take the ten digit to the next step (e.g. 7*5=35, so write 5 in 3). Repeat for the remaining digits of the multiplier. Whenever you carry a number, add it to the product (eg 1*5 and 3 carried in the previous step give us 8). When you complete the first digit of the multiplicand, you will get the first intermediate product. Repeat the same process for the remaining digits of the multiplicand, starting one position at a time from the right (when you multiply by ten, hundred, etc.). You can also write trailing zeros if you wish. 💡If you are facing any 0 numbers in the multiplicand, you can skip this step, because the product of 0 and any other number is always zero. When you have used up all the intermediate products, add them up. The result is your final product. Now you know how to do long multiplications!
